RAMADAN is a holy month self-purification through fasting and abstinence has started from the 30th June. Muslims around the world give up from eating & drinking during the daylight hours. They believe this holy month as a time to cleanse their souls, refocus attention on God, and practice self-sacrifice etc.

 

The ‘Iftar’ or breaking of fast at sunset is considered to be very important with several delicacies being prepared specially for the occasion.

 

Fasting for the first time is an anticipated event in the lives of children. They expect something special served on the iftar table . And most of our caring mothers make a mental note of this demand. While there are a lot of dishes that can be served for iftar , some certain dishes have shown great promise ! The children love to eat something crispy as well as spicy dish but also like to have a sweet dessert for finishing !

 

So, today we are going to present you with the recipes and instructions on a couple of items that has been quite popular among children.

 

Spicy Chicken Roll: The name itself tells you that this dish must be delicious. Since everybody, especially children are fond of chicken very much this easy to make spicy chicken roll will make for a great iftar Item !

 

Here are the ingredients required for the Spicy Chicken Roll :

  • 4-6 paratas ( fried bread )

  • 300g boneless chicken

  • ½ tbsp ginger paste

  • ½ tbsp garlic paste

  • Salt to taste

  • 2 tbsp oil

  • ½ tsp roasted cumin powder

  • ½ tsp coriander powder

  • ½ tsp red chilli powder

  • ¼ tsp chaat masala (optional)

  • 2 medium size onions, sliced

  • 1 medium size carrot cut into thin strips

  • 4-6 tbsp green chutney (Golden Harvest has one)

  • 2 tbsp chopped, fresh coriander leaves

 

How to make : Mix ginger paste, garlic paste and salt and marinate chicken cubes in it for an hour, preferably in the refrigerator. Heat oil in a pan and sauté chicken cubes till done. Add roasted cumin powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder, chaat masala (if you have any) and salt. Mix sliced onions and carrot strips.

 

To make stick rolls, put one teaspoon of oil on a pan and lightly heat the paratas (fried bread). Smear each parata (fried bread) with one tablespoon of green chutney, place six to eight pieces of cooked chicken and sprinkle with remaining coriander leaves. Spread a spoonful of onion and carrot mixture on the bread and sprinkle salt. Roll the bread tightly over the stuffing, secure with a toothpick and serve the tasty dish while it is still hot!
